Today the 2ears2hear team received news that the Ministry of Health will be undertaking the policy work required to move to funding two cochlear implants for children who need them. This is hugely exciting and represents an extremely positive step in our campaign for these little children.

Overseas, every country that has looked at this issue has decided to fund two cochlear implants for children. The outcomes for children are better. Its cheaper in the short to medium term to do two cochlear implants. And it is safer. In short, it is the ‘common sense’ approach.

The 2ears2hear team would like to recognise this step. We are committed to continue to help and encourage this process along. Our vision is that at the next budget Minister Ryall will be able to announce the extension of the current programme to provide bilateral cochlear implants for all children who need them.
